SUSHI | Easy Recipe
Sushi is a Japanese dish that consists of vinegered rice (sushi rice) combined with a variety of ingredients such as raw fish, cooked seafood, vegetables, and sometimes fruits. The ingredients are often rolled together in sheets of seaweed (nori) or served as bite-sized pieces (nigiri). Sushi is typically served with soy sauce, wasabi paste, and pickled ginger on the side. Sushi has become popular worldwide and is enjoyed both in traditional Japanese restaurants and in modern fusion cuisine.
Ingredients:
- Sushi rice (2 cups)
- Rice vinegar (1/4 cup)
- Sugar (2 tablespoons)
- Salt (1 teaspoon)
- Nori sheets
- Sushi-grade fish or vegetables (your choice)
- Soy sauce
- Wasabi paste
- Pickled ginger
Instructions:
- Rinse the sushi rice thoroughly in a fine-mesh sieve until the water runs clear.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the rice and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
- In a small saucepan, combine the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Cook over low heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- When the rice is done, remove it from the heat and let it sit covered for 10 minutes.
- Transfer the cooked rice to a large bowl and add the vinegar mixture. Stir gently to combine, being careful not to mash the rice.
- Let the rice cool to room temperature.
- Lay a sheet of nori on a sushi mat or a piece of plastic wrap. Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking and spread a thin layer of rice over the nori, leaving a 1-inch border at the top edge.
- Arrange your chosen fillings in a row in the center of the rice.
- Use the mat or plastic wrap to tightly roll the sushi, starting from the bottom edge and using the border of rice at the top to seal the roll.
- Repeat with remaining nori sheets and filling.
- Use a sharp knife to slice the sushi rolls into bite-sized pieces.
- Serve with soy sauce, wasabi paste, and pickled ginger on the side.
Enjoy your homemade sushi!
